Here's a way to keep from ruining your set-up on a drill press by lowering the table after you have center-drilled in preparation for drilling!

Mount a small chuck with a 1/2" straight arbor in the drill press chuck.  The added length lets you use the
short center drill, and then switch to a jobbers length drill bit without lowering your drill press table.  Use good Jacobs chucks, you won't break the center drill.

As a manufacturer of cnc shape cutting machines and flame cutting machines, we try wherever possible to use thermal cutting processes in place of traditional machine work and mechanical
cutting. However, as this is not always possible, we have over time developed a number of methods for performing metal fabrication and machine work in the shortest possible time.

These pages are intended to share these tips with metal fabrication shops, street rod chassis builders, welding businesses and others for whatever
they are worth.
