TORCHMATE III
Industrial CNC Shape Cutting Machine

Introduction   Construction   Software   Electronics

Torchmate III machines are available in finished, bolt-together form, or as a kit where you fabricate the table and rails from locally purchased steel.  These pages will describe the finished, bolt-together unit.

Comparable in construction and performance to competing machines costing $50,000 and up, a finished Torchmate III can be assembled in 3 to 4 hours with a few basic hand tools.  It can be disassembled in sub-sections and re-assembled in minutes if it must be moved.  Torchmate III gantry kits require approximately 16 hours to complete, including fabricating the table.

Our automatic torch height control units, automated Z axis, and tube cutting attachment are optional for all machines, including our finished Torchmate III.

Our finished Torchmate III machines have the following features not found on our Standard Torchmate or Torchmate II gantry kits:

    Massive extruded aluminum construction throughout.

Finished machines come complete as pictured, requiring only 3 to 4 hours of
   assembly time.

Micro-stepping electronics are available on finished Torchmate III machines only.
While unnecessary for plasma or oxy-fuel work, these electronics provide a slight
accuracy edge over our standard half-stepping electronics.  Customers involved
in engraving, circuit board work, or other activities requiring extremely fine detail
may find this configuration beneficial.  It is overkill for shape cutting in metal or
    routing in wood, plastic, etc.

Whether equipped with micro-stepping or half-stepping electronics, all of our
Torchmate III finished machines and kits come with dual 264 oz. in. motors on
the X (long) axis, and one 264 oz. in. motor on the Y axis.

X axis motors and gear racks are outside the frame rails on both sides of the
machine, and are protected by a 1" steel rail overhang.

Dropped rail on far side permits easy forklift loading of material.  Rail system
is sufficiently long to permit the gantry to be moved to the end of the table for
   loading of material.

The Torchmate III uses the same precision linear motion Y axis components found on our Torchmate II.

Supporting your material:

Finished Torchmate III machines are supplied with slat support brackets with slots into which 3/16" thick steel strips can be placed.  For cutting steel up to about 3/8" thick, you can mount the brackets on your frame as shown here.  For heavier material, fabricate a separate support table, and weld the slat support brackets to either side of the table.  The slotted brackets are optional on Torchmate III gantry kits.

You can fabricate small brackets from angle iron to hang the slotted brackets from your machine's frame, or mount them on a separate table to support heavy material (over 3/8" plate).
